It now appears almost certain that the new BlackBerry Storm handset from Vodafone will feature SureType keyboard technology.

SureType & Qwerty Keyboard on the BlackBerry Storm

This coupled with a Qwerty keyboard should make the BlackBerry Storm the easiest phone on the market to type with. The SureType technology means that the buttons slightly depress to the touch, giving the keyboard a tactile quality that is lacking in the iPhone and elsewhere.

Personally, I think this new feature of the BlackBerry Storm is great news! I have always found the traditional phone keyboard layout hard to use when emailing or texting and the Qwerty layout seems to make so much more sense. It seems this will be another plus point for the BlackBerry Storm as Vodafone tries to get one over its rivals.

BlackBerry Storm Setting a Trend?

However, the Suretype technology is not exclusive to this handset and it will be interesting to see how many other phones follow the lead of the BlackBerry Storm.

I don’t think it will be long before this is the industry standard as it is such an improvement on previous clunky methods due to the improvements made in the use of context for its intuitive text and its ability to ‘learn’ new words. This coupled with a database of more than 30,000 terms which means it is the most comprehensive software available at the moment. The Blackberry Storm will also offer the chance to revert to the standard Multi-tap system so the user can have the best of both worlds.
