BlackBerry Storm – iTunes Synchronisation
Tags: BlackBerry Storm, BlackBerry Storm Features, iTunes Synchronisation, Media SyncOne of the best features rumoured to be on the new BlackBerry Storm is the ability to synchronise with iTunes. The Storm will be the first non-Apple device to offer this feature which is bound to create some interest in the BlackBerry Storm from music fans worldwide.
BlackBerry Storm Media Synchronisation
As different tasks in life merge into ever advancing technological devices, one of the demands of the present time seems to be media synchronisation between all device types. Bluetooth made transferring files with no wires easy, then there were camera phones, internet on the move (in both limited and more recently fuller capacities), and following that music collections on your phone too.
In most of these applications then, it’s usually been a requirement that synchronisation back to a PC or Mac is available – users tend to use these as a home storage device in terms of photos, music and videos, and in most cases purchase music on their computers before transferring it to a mobile device.
It seems apt then that RIM has announced yet another first for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm handset. As mentioned before, the Storm will be the first non-Apple device to offer synchronisation with the ever-popular iTunes, giving iPod owners, and everybody else that just uses the software as a music organiser and online store, an incentive to buy it.
How Does the BlackBerry Storm Offer iTunes Synchronisation?
iTunes sychronisation will be available on the BlackBerry Storm using BlackBerry Media Sync. There will be some functions missing though, most notably its inability to sync DRM-protected music (Digital Rights Management), and have drag and drop functionality. These wouldn’t be negatives in favour of the Apple iPhone though – it doesn’t support them either! Video is also off the agenda.
On the bright side of life, BlackBerry’s Media Sync will support album art import, and of course import all DRM-free music of the AAC, M4A, MP3 and WAV file formats. Anytime you update your iTunes library on your PC, it’ll be synced onto your BlackBerry Storm smartphone too. Provided you’ve got it connected via USB of course.
If you’ve got any further information on BlackBerry’s Media Sync, for example, will the file transfer of podcasts be possible, or on the BlackBerry Storm handset itself, feel free to comment below.

March 25th, 2009 9:10 pmjust need to link my black berry storm to my pc
May 19th, 2009 5:06 pmThree issues:
1) It only copies play lists, so make a play list (ie Blackberry) for the music you want on your phone:- Changes to your library are NOT automatically mirrored on the phone.
2) Check you albums after syn - Sometimes it “shffles” the songs and you wont know till you get “stray” tacks (i.e. it play song 1 off album a then song 1 off album b, then 2 off a and 2 off b etc)
3) Always close desk top sync then ust the USB devise disconect (as you would for any other devise) otherwise both PC and phne can crash (or at the very least a system reboot is required to hook up to the PC again).
Apart from that, am impressed!
