Thunder, Bold, iPhone Killer, the BlackBerry Storm has been called a few things lately (in addition to the less publishable names presumably flying round the Apple boardroom), but the certainty is that soon, the BlackBerry Storm will be launched head-on into the path of the ever-dominating iPhone.
Speculation about the Appearance of the BlackBerry Storm
At first glance (and only Photoshop mock-ups are available at the moment) the Storm looks almost exactly like an iPhone, with a large 3.5 inch high-resolution display and chrome edges dominating the look. The BlackBerry Storm has slightly more rounded edges, and four physical buttons under the screen compared with the iPhone’s lonely single button. These buttons link the Storm with previous Blackberries, continuing the trend of easy access to call start and end, escape and a ‘BlackBerry’ button to access the main menu.
Technical Details of the New BlackBerry Storm
Technical details of the new BlackBerry Storm are scarce, but the rumours are impressive. The screen will feature multi-touch and dual tactile feedback to make it behave more naturally than the iPhone. The haptics technology, providing a vibration when the screen is pressed, lets the user know when they have made contact, something which the iPhone lacks. The screen on the Storm is also of a slightly higher resolution.
Probably the biggest kick in the iPhone’s multi-touch face is the fact that the user of the BlackBerry Storm can sync directly with iTunes – something only the Apple phone could do previously.
Blackberries have always been big on connectivity, and from what we can fathom, the Storm will not disappoint. Possible support for 4G and high-speed internet means the iPhone is once again completely beaten.
Will the BlackBerry Storm Mobile Phone Dominate the Market?
Due for launch in Q3, the Storm might just steer the businesspeople back to Blackberries from the iPhone, and with its new multimedia capabilities, especially the internet and iTunes sync, it looks likely to steal the iPhone’s crown. And who doesn’t think that it’s about time?
